Dividend Calculator Definitions

Number of Shares

The number of shares you currently own or plan to purchase.

For example, enter 100 if you own 100 shares of a dividend-paying stock.

Dividend Yield

The annual dividend payment expressed as a percentage of the stock's current price.

For example, a stock priced at $50 with a 4% dividend yield pays approximately $2 per share annually.

Dividend Growth Rate

The percentage you expect the annual dividend payment to increase each year.

For example, a 5% dividend growth rate means a $2 annual dividend would increase to $2.10 the following year.

Beginning Stock Price

The current price per share at the start of your projection.

The calculator multiplies this price by your number of shares to determine your initial investment value.

Stock Price Growth Rate

The expected average annual increase in the stock's price, excluding dividends.

For example, a 3% growth rate means a $50 stock would be projected to reach $51.50 after one year.

Number of Years

The number of years you want to project your stock's value and accumulated dividend payments.

Important Calculator Assumptions

This calculator assumes dividends are paid in cash and are not reinvested. Your number of shares remains constant throughout the projection.

The calculator also assumes constant dividend growth and stock price growth rates. Actual dividends and stock prices may increase or decrease, and companies can reduce or eliminate dividend payments.

Results are before taxes and do not account for trading costs or inflation.
